This particular model has room for a few PCI cards, though not populated in this version. For my purposes though this model is fine.Īnyway, the Watchguard physically is a nice unit, very solidly built, and eye wateringly red. Really I wanted an XTM 505 or XTM 510, but they are unavailable.
Most have more than enough throughput for any small business, and I only have 2 links, a 6MB symmetrical and the world work DSL link, 1500/256.
This review will focus more on usability and manageability, the reality is I could use just about any mid-market firewall and it would work well. This unit is a bit out of place from the rest of the units, it is the previous generation of hardware from Watchguard, and is aimed at a slightly bigger user base than I have to look after. This will be my first “review” for OCAU, hopefully more to come!
This will be the first in a series of reviews, they will be:Ī little about me, I’m Mario, I’ve been in IT for 10 years or so in differing roles, from a lowly road tech to technical trainer and now in a Support/Management position.
